Peter McPoland's "Come Around" Is Undeniably Charming

Last month Peter McPoland released his first single of the year, "String Lights" - a painstakingly beautiful ballad about the bittersweet feelings that come with growing older. Today, McPoland returns with his newest single "Come Around," another moving display of his versatility as an artist. Twisting indie-folk and indie-pop into folk-pop, "Come Around" is the optimistic best friend to "String Lights."

People only exist to us when we are with them, and when we are thinking about them. The more we think about them, the more of an "idea" they become, and the more of an "idea" they become, the more attached we grow. On "Come Around," Peter sings about a special someone - he is waiting for them to "come around," and the longer he waits, the more intense his desire to be with them grows. Towards the end of the track, he sings, "If I die tonight, if I die tonight, I would die loving you for the rest of my life / If I ever die, if I ever die, I would die loving you for the rest of my life."

"Come Around" is pioneered to folk-pop perfection, using pop guitars and a repetitive drum beat allowing Peter to tell his story. The instrumentals pick up speed, unfolding into an orchestra of sounds that you cannot help but bounce along to. Ultimately, what makes McPoland's music so special is the level of sincerity his vocals carry - whether it be in a slowed down ballad like "String Lights" or an upbeat pop tune like "Shit Show."  If a bright-eyed smile had a voice, the vocals in "Come Around" are what I imagine it would sound like. Singing with an undeniable charm - how could McPoland's person not come around?

"Come Around" will appear on Peter McPoland's debut EP,  Slow Down, set to release May 20.
