From CHANKA’s Instagram username @wander.chanka, you can probably get a glimpse of her personality and musical style: it is like wandering aimlessly in the city. Atmospheric, folk-inflected progressive rock stirred together with smooth, downtempo electronic textures, from the Hong Kong-based singer-songwriter equipped with a deceptively frail voice. However, CHANKA’s music favours emotional impacts over everything else, making her work ever-evolving, always ambitious and sometimes genre-breaking. 

She started self-learning the guitar and participating in the busking scene since 2015. In 2017, she started focusing on songwriting and organised her first concert. Her music is deeply influenced by British musicians. Her trademark as a singer-songwriter has been her airy vocal that goes along with a vintage, dark, indie folk sound, often with a slight touch of psychedelic electronic elements. Her debut album “Shades of Blue” is released in 2019. CHANKA has been active in music festivals, including THE GREAT ESCAPE x EAR UP MUSIC FESTIVAL and OVERLAP music festival.
