Arcy Drive Tease Debut Album With New Single “The Itch”

Some of the best things in life happened by accident: sticky notes, velcro, and more recently Arcy Drive. The quartet, made up of lead singer Nick Mateyunas, guitarist Austin Jones, bassist Patrick Helrigel, and drummer Brooke Tuozzo, was born from a half joking conversation between Mateyunas and Jones. Hailing from New York, the group has built a loyal fanbase with less than 20 released songs. Thankfully for fans, more songs are on their way. The group’s first studio album, The Pit, drops on April 18th, and their latest single “The Itch” is out now.

“The Itch” has been years in the making, with Mateyunas writing the first verse and pre-chorus when he was 21, thinking about what the future had in store for him. "The lines ‘Too young to be working, and too old to be bitching’ I really liked at the time. They highlighted these thoughts of uncertainty in a cool blue collar sort of way,” the singer shared. The second verse came about when the band was on tour and snuck into a hotel for the continental breakfast, and the chorus was the last part written, when the band was in the studio. The journey it took to create the song is reflected in the lyrics. “‘Don’t act confused, I stand by you’ is a way of me telling my younger self to relax and that it’s all going to be okay… kind of,” Mateyunas explained.

Despite being born from uncertainty, sonically the song is lively and upbeat. The energetic guitar and drums immediately set the tone for the song. Mateyunas’ easygoing vocals combined with the instrumentation perfectly represent how it feels to be questioning the future, but still young enough to maybe not take it as seriously as one should. The chorus builds with both instruments and vocals coming through with a heightened intensity that feels more like acceptance about the uncertainty of life rather than a panic about the future.
