Exclusive: KENNEDY Releases “All The Pretty Girls” For Those Who March To The Beat Of Their Own Drum

KENNEDY’s 4th single “All the Pretty Girls” is finally here and even better, we got the accompanying visuals. A bare-bones snapshot that captures the essence of the song in a beautifully allegorical way, and we cannot wait for you to watch it.

A self-described “5’10 slightly lanky Canadian tomboy,” KENNEDY, born Rachael Kennedy, is a Grammy award-winning songwriter and producer. As 1/3 of the LIONCHILD production team, she has written hits for artists like Rauw Alejandro or Megan Thee Stallion, as well as music for TV shows like “Wylde Pak.” Now, she gets to create for herself under the moniker KENNEDY.

In “All the Pretty Girls" KENNEDY comes to terms with the pressure of trying to fit in into the ideals of “femininity” and trying “to be LIKE ‘the pretty girls,’ when in reality [she] really just wanted to be WITH them.” We have to admit that we gasped at that — we love a moment of realization.

Intertwined in a mix of classic pop and lo-fi rhythms, you will find lyrics that go straight to the point. A direct reflection on how she has never felt like she belonged in the boxes we make, KENNEDY instead feels like she is somewhere in-between, wondering what will become of her when there doesn’t seem to be a place for her to fit in.

If you’ve ever heard of carrying around dead weight, then you know that is what society’s expectations can feel like sometimes. The song’s visuals reference that feeling: in the video, KENNEDY literally starts out by carrying dead “pretty girl” weight. This metaphorical contrast between being stuck in the past and moving forward - as well as the feeling of being trapped versus being free - are a clear theme in this song, both lyrically and visually.

We see KENNEDY dressed like a tomboy from the olden days, whilst her “pretty girl” counterpart wears a dress. As she breaks free from the dead weight, they begin a dance, and the freer they become, the more they can leave behind the expectations of what is “natural” or “normal” and embrace being happy in the in-between. If you love a metaphor, this is even symbolized by the moment at the end of the video where they leave nature and end up overlooking a city full of possibilities.

“I color in the numbers, stay in the lines...rehearse the steps, but I’d rather slide,” KENNEDY says. The song is a constant battle of trying to figure out how to color outside of the lines, embrace your own way of expressing what it means to be “feminine,” and what it means to love someone. In the very catchy chorus she finds a way to do that: “But they say, hey, all the pretty girls do it! Catch your eye and they know what they’re doing.”

As KENNEDY describes it: “It is a music up, windows down, kind of song for the ones who didn’t fit in, but marched to the beat of their own drum anyway.”

Want to get a taste of the song live? KENNEDY will be performing at the Viper Room on Oct 9, 2025.
