Genre-Bending Easy Life Surprises Us with Interstellar 'Spaceships' Mixtape

British band Easy Life just surprised us with a fire mixtape... Yes, that really happened. With a modest upbringing, frontman Murray learned how to work tirelessly for what he wanted by selling potatoes and plucking turkeys on his parents' Leicestershire farm. Easy Life embodies this respected sense of diligence as they are undeniably positive–yet comfortable with vulnerability. Deceivingly hinting at the solo release of leading single "Sunday," Easy Life instead dropped their entire Spaceships mixtape for our undeserving ears to indulge in, and we're more than happy with that.

With only six tracks, Spaceships is an impressive representation of Easy Life's evolving sound as the thrilling mixtape takes us on an eclectic journey through jazz instrumentals, R&B harmonies, hip-hop beats, and alternative pop melodies. Immediately, we're introduced to moody saxophones in "Mercury Retrograde" as Murray questions his Gemini self while the Sun's neighboring planet experiences a mystifying east-to-west orbit. A bass-heavy R&B track, "Sunday" captures the timeless feeling of lust and early love while "Wet Weekend" sees Easy Life experimenting with more trippy hip-hop elements.

Singing about "marshmallow clouds" in the nostalgic "Basics," Easy Life takes a step back to reminisce on their roots and childhoods before life got complicated and frustrating. Easy Life switches gears in "Afters," a hazy, pop-influenced song about feeling confused and misunderstood. The ephemeral closing track, "Jealousy" features gentle ukulele strumming, which is later paired with captivating electronics, leaving us feeling fulfilled and content.

On Spaceships, Easy Life left us with a simple message:

"We were just gonna release one song tonight but now we're releasing six."
