Gracie Abrams Questions What’s Next in “Where do we go now?”

Indie darling Gracie Abrams gets personal on her first single of 2023, "Where do we go now?" The emotional single reflects the little white lies that add up and take shape as bright red flags. With no choice but to face her feelings, she bares her soul and is left uncertain about where that leaves her and the person she's coming clean to.

On the track, listeners can hear the pain in her voice and even read the pain and confusion in the lyrics. "24th street/ Where you held me, grabbed my arm / What a mental fire alarm / Cause a lot of that felt wrong," she confesses, sounding both regretful and emphatic. "Like I miss you/ But when I kissed you back, I lied/ You don't know how hard I tried/Had to fake the longest time." Set against a sparse but mesmerizing sonic backdrop, the 23-year-old artist reaches a new level of lyrical honesty and self-possession, an element fully reflected in her quietly beautiful vocal work.

The accompanying music video, directed by Gia Coppola, is a highly-stylized intimate visual that sees Abrams reeling over the fallout of a broken relationship. Viewers can see the single's rollercoaster of emotions play out as rapidly changing shots follow Abrams working through those feelings. With scenes switching between grayscale and soft, muted tones, the visual embodies the song's sense of unease and uncertainty, as if the singer has nothing to do but sit with her feelings and reflect.

"Where do we go now?" offers a first look at Abrams' forthcoming debut album Good Riddance, set to release February 24. Holed up at Long Pond Studio in New York's Hudson Valley with close collaborator Aaron Dessner of the National, the singer-songwriter looked at creating the record as an exercise in growing up. Abrams will also be heading out on her North American headlining tour with Tiny Habits, which kicks off on March 7 in Chicago at the House of Blues and wraps up on April 10 in San Francisco at The Fillmore. Along with performing in 15 cities across the US, Abrams will join Taylor Swift on select dates for her blockbuster ‘Eras Tour.’
