Holly Humberstone Attempts to Find a Place to Call Home on "London Is Lonely"

After the release of Holly Humberstone's  The Walls Are Way Too Thin, it is difficult to imagine anybody who could deny the UK artist's resounding ability to skillfully capture poignant moments byway of her vivid storytelling and lullaby-like voice. Only a few months since the release of the aforementioned critically-acclaimed EP, the rising artist has already dropped another single, yet again reminding us that this is just the beginning for Humberstone.

Earlier, Humberstone took to SoundCloud to tease her ultimate fans with a demo version of the unreleased single for a 48-hour window. On Thursday, she finally dropped the fully-realized version of "London is Lonely," which arrived as a charming addition to her tender discography. On her new single, Humberstone isn't afraid to acknowledge that even in the midst of one of the greatest cities in the world, she isn't in the best state of mind. "I've been smoking and staying out too late / But you know I've got good intentions, babe" the singer-songwriter admits.

The track grips onto you tightly as each lyric is strung together by Humberstone's haunting yet soothing melodies. You find yourself hanging onto every word as each line melts into the next. The somber single ultimately leaves you yearning for more. One can't help but simply marvel at how her voice cuts through each note and reverberates throughout, leaving us with a stirring portrayal of isolation.

"I wrote 'London Is Lonely' back in February 2020 right before the pandemic hit here in the UK" says Holly.   "I had just moved out of my childhood home down to London and had spent the past few months feeling really trapped and alone in my tiny flat with strangers. London felt so intense and although there were so many people around me, I felt even more isolated and like I didn't belong. I kind of lost myself in the city. I didn't exactly know who I was anymore, and so going home and writing felt like my safe space to process everything. It's funny now listening to the song almost two years on, post-pandemic, and feeling like nothing much has changed at all. I'm still trying to find my place here and make it my home and so it felt right to put this song out into the world right now, when so many other people are probably feeling lost right now too."
