Irish Folk Trio Amble Release Highly Anticipated Debut Album “Reverie”

Amble, the trio of singer-songwriters Robbie Cunningham, Oisin McCaffrey, and Ross McNerney have officially unveiled their debut album Reverie, and it’s clear that this project is far from a typical first release. Far transcending any typical kinks in finding their collective sound, the 14-track project is a celebration of their folkloric style they’ve beautifully honed, and explored in previous works, including The Commons EP released last fall.

In Reverie, Cunningham, McCaffrey and McNerney artfully navigate the emotionally charged themes of nostalgia, love and loss through an approach that is creative, story-based and woefully epic.

“Schoolyard Days” introduces the project with Amble’s signature acoustic delivery (courtesy of Robbie Cunningham on vocals). At just over three minutes, the track dances between the line of nostalgia and longing, immediately striking the listener with the track’s opening plea, “Take me back to schoolyard days // Rosie, ring a ring // Oh to be schoolboys again.” and as the track progresses, inverts the plea as the lyrics draw to a close, “My brother those days are gone // So go on now, go fly, go fly, go fly.”

“Mariner Boy” is a resonant track that offers a compelling post-mortem on a fleeting relationship. With an intimate, confessional delivery, and stripped down guitar, “Mariner Boy” hooks the listener from the start: “There’s no bonny lass waiting for me//If I had but one, I would lay down my folly, and not be gone fishing with thee.” and tinged with the hindsight of the relationship’s demise, the narrator closes the track with a heart-wrenching reflection, “It’s often the day, sitting up on the waves that I wish I could then see her face// But I’ll always remember her name.” This track, and Reverie as a whole, is a testament to Amble’s profound skill in balancing evocative lyrics with a melody that doesn’t just hit, but stays with the listener after each listen.

With a sold-out tour across North America already underway, and as support for Hozier this summer, 2025 is shaping up to be an explosive year for Amble. There is no question of the impact the trio is making not only in the Irish music scene, but on a massive scale.
