Izzy Spears Walks Us Through ‘M*A*D (Miss. American Dream),’ Track By Track

If you want an impressive, brash, and beautiful soundtrack to conspire against family dinners over the next few weeks then look no further than mercurial maven Izzy Spears' latest release, M*A*D (Miss American Dream). An artist, auteur, and true counterculture poet, Spears unearths a more sentimental-sounding conduit to express the fear and frustration his music is known for. To get inside his head, in all its honest brevity, we cued up the artist to get his take on the American Dream.

"BLIND LEADING THE BLIND"

As the introduction to M*A*D (Miss American Dream), I want to draw in the audience with a luring track. I want to draw the listener in with an ethereal and seductive chant. Kinda like the lure of siren or something like that. Call for the listener to follow me into the world I’m creating.

"SERENA"

The lure continues with "Serena" who represents the high and the withdrawals of drugs or life in general. It’s meant to be the extreme of both ends.

"NEW NORMAL"

This record for me is about the acceptance of how shit is unfolding in a relationship, or in life I’m general. Like this paranoia and anxiety that we all suffer from is just the way life is now. It’s normal.

"SHOCK THERAPY"

I’m just talkin my shit. Basically saying I want the pressure and all the smoke and I can handle it. Gimme more.

"HEAVEN"

This is a song that is up for interpretation. It’s for the listener to decide. I know what it means to me and what I wrote it about and it’s personal. But after sitting with it so long I realize it could mean a lot of different things depending on the listener’s experience. I’m interested in seeing what people think it means.

"M*A*D"

Pretty self-explanatory. Talking my shit. We all mad rn. I’m just putting it out there.
