Jean Dawson’s latest single is absolutely "to die for." The enigmatic musical renaissance man reveals a captivatingly deep new track featuring Lil Yachty.

“Die For Me” begins with a haunting piano loop, so intimate you can hear the fingernails grace the keyboard. There’s a sense of honesty and inquietude infused in the intro, resolved only by a biting drum beat and Dawson’s vocal performance which is as unrestrained and yearning as the instrumental. His lyrics speak of a love so intense it’s a matter of life or death. This sentiment is bolstered by a buzzing synth that ushers in a weighty and epic titular refrain.

"Knowledge speaks & wisdom listens - I don’t know anything but this feeling I’m chasing and the closer I get the further it seems," shares Dawson. "I don’t want to talk anymore. When I was younger I was so excited, so talkative now I'm no longer excited, just obsessed. I no longer have words except for in the songs I write. I hope you feel something.”

As for the feature, Lil Yachty’s verse encapsulates and further enforces the song’s melodramatic essence. This love is not the love of a '90s rom-com (unless you count Baz Lurhmann's 1996 adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet) but rather one of an obsessive and tragic nature. It’s Yachty’s contribution and Dawson’s dizzying production that bring the song to a clear and concise conclusion with a final chorus and heartrending outro, “I’ve been looking at my body fall / Off the cliff I go if you tell me so / Oh, I’ve died so many times.”

The track is an exciting peek into what’s to come, as Dawson recently announced his forthcoming album Glimmer of God, slated for an October release. In addition, the artist announced he’ll be hitting the road on a headlining North American tour, kicking off October 18 in Minneapolis.
