Matt Champion Ushers in a New Era With "Faye" and "Hacker"

Matt Champion has no interest in participating in genre. In the subversive alt-R&B track “Faye,” Champion lets himself be limbless and surrenders to groove, ushering in a new era as a solo act.

Recently announced amongst the historical lineup for this year’s Camp Flog Gnaw, Champion has successfully made a solo return to music. The multidisciplinary excels at making art both immersive and disorienting, a thoughtful observer of life’s complexities. The former Brockhampton member can rap about both lust and the existential woes of being, lending to a loyal and devoted following.

“FAYE” stands as an extension of his debut solo effort Mika’s Laundry, the first of a multi-part series promised to be released over the coming weeks. The Dijon-produced single is infused with hip-hop, further deepening Champion’s enigmatic scope. With distorted vocals, he slurs “All black dress, yeah, that’s Saint Laurent / Bitch gon’ get the Ouija and ask you somethin’.”

Released shortly after "Faye," "Hacker" arrives as yet another departure, adopting a lackadaisical, sauntering stride. Champion's drawl takes on an effortless cool, sliding into a romantic push-and-pull that is difficult to resist.

A perfect pair of singles to usher in a season of longer nights, Champion proves there’s only more in store as hungry fans yearn for more.
