Ninajirachi's 'I Love My Computer' Is a Reverent Love Letter to the Internet and Electronic Music
While the summer comes to an end, many are desperately trying to assemble the early foundation of what will eventually become their fall rotation. With so many albums, EPs, and singles released by music’s biggest juggernauts over the past few months, who among us can confidently sift through everything and pull out the best of the best? How can a task so arduous and daunting be completed in time for cuffing season?
Despite music’s most popular names dominating recent headlines and trends, some of the best music released over the past month actually comes from artists that lean more towards the early and burgeoning side of the cultural spectrum. Among those is none other than the Australian artist and producer Ninajiachi, who, after months of perfectly high-octane singles, released her long-awaited debut album I Love My Computer earlier this month. Blending early 2000s EDM stylistics with futuristic and boundary-pushing sounds and ideas, few albums (if any) have captured my eyes and ears this year like Ninajirachi’s has. From the abrasive yet addictive chaos of "CSIRAC" to the melodic earnestness on the anthemic "All I Am," every inch of I Love My Computer is instilled with a refreshing energy that only Ninajirachi can provide.
Whether lost in the thundering bass signals of album opener "London" or the glitchy percussion of album closer "All At Once," I Love My Computer feels like a reverent love letter to the internet, electronic music, and everything in between. As you go further down the Ninajirachi rabbit hole, where technology begins to be depicted as an extension of the self, it’s no surprise that tracks like “Fuck My Computer” and "iPod Touch" portray the relationship between humans and the devices around us to be almost too familiar or borderline intimate.
Though Ninajirachi is not necessarily a “new” name in the world of dance music, with collaborations with artists like ISOxo, MGNA CRRRTA, and Deadmau5 released over the past few years, I Love My Computer feels like an important shift in Ninajirachi’s story. The seed that was planted in her seminal 2024 project girl EDM has blossomed into something entirely unique and irreplaceable today, and if projects like I Love My Computer are any indication of things to come, then fans are in for a treat.
