Peach Pit Soars to Daring New Heights in “Magpie”

Peach Pit’s fourth album, Magpie, is a daring departure from their past records. The Canadian indie band has always been known for their ear-catching melodies and narratively complex lyrics, but Magpie sees them soaring into new artistic territories. This isn’t just a new album; it’s the start of a new era for Peach Pit. Magpie is a love letter to creative experimentation, defying genre conventions and pushing the boundaries of indie rock.

While Magpie is a bold departure, it still invokes the spirit of Peach Pit’s past albums. The album draws inspiration from their earlier projects, particularly the vulnerability present in From 2 to 3. However, Magpie reimagines these familiar themes with a fresh perspective. As seen in the album’s lead single “Every Little Thing,” the track introduces an upbeat tempo that invokes a warm familiarity. With a seamless blend of guitar and bass-forward texture, “Every Little Thing” ushers us into a universe that is raw, adventurous, and panoramic.

Magpie is a testament to Peach Pit's artistic growth. The band seamlessly blends their signature sound with new ideas, creating a record that rewards its listeners. Tracks like "Did You Love Somebody?” and “Outta Here” showcase the band's depth through striking lyricism and resonant instrumentation.

A dynamic follow-up, Magpie sees Peach Pit shine in keeping their audience guessing, revealing new layers and surprises, rewarding its listeners with each listen. With genre diversity and collaboration that reflects the close bond of lead vocalist Neil Smith, guitarist Chris Vanderkooy, bassist Peter Wilton, and drummer Mikey Pascuzzi.

The album's title, Magpie, is a fitting choice. Like a Magpie collecting trinkets, the project itself is a collection of versatile sounds and influences. Peach Pit has continued to outdo themselves, crafting a record that pushes the band to soaring new heights.
