piri & Tommy Villiers Get Our Hearts Racing With "updown"

It’s as if they heard our beckoning for a raunchy hyperpop anthem, because UK duo piri & Tommy Villiers have delivered exactly that with their latest single “updown.”

Their first piece of work of 2023, this track isn’t for the timid, with even its censored radio edit leaving little to the imagination. From getting lucky on the first date to looking better from below, there’s an obvious blooming in piri’s confidence, pairing seamlessly with Villiers’ uninhibited sonic flare. It’s a tongue-in-cheek follow-up to their 2022 record froge.mp3, which earned them charting singles and critical acclaim.

In their waking lives, both artists seem very comfortable in their skin, which lends to their music in very tactile ways. They aren’t trying to sound like other dance music artists nor riding a wave that shrinks their eclectic sound, which only strengthens their magnetism. People can’t seem to get enough of piri & Tommy Villiers, yet the artists continue to create while remaining weary of over saturation. Through the merriment of strategy and play, they’ve got us exactly where they want us.

“updown” is a song that gives us permission to reclaim our natural desires. If you're going to be salivated over anyway, why not have some fun with it? It’s an electrifying declaration for anyone who has felt empowered by having someone at their mercy with the mere witness of their silhouette.

The song was teased during their sold-out UK/European tour, proving that the duo has built themselves into a truly unstoppable force. As they continue to forge ahead on a truly unpredictable path, we can be assured that only more gloriously euphoric dance pop will be birthed along the way.
