One of the many bittersweet experiences that come with adulthood is the act of outgrowing people. Sometimes, the people who we were once confided in no longer serve us in the way they used to - and vice versa - and that's okay. The 19-year-old bubblegum pop princess otherwise known as renforshort has returns with her single "moshpit," a gentle reminder that we usually know what the best thing to do for ourselves is… but knowing you should leave someone doesn't make it any easier to do.

In just under four minutes, renforshort tells the story of a two year relationship that has run its course. The track's production directly reflects the buildup of emotions: starting out with subtle electric guitars and renforshort's soft, delicate vocals. As the song progresses, its production intensifies, and by the chorus, renforshort's voice is crystal clear as she sings over grungy pop-punk instrumentals. The dichotomy between the verses and the chorus displays how a toxic relationship can go from one emotion to the next in the blink of an eye. By the end of "moshpit," renforshort comes to realize that what she and her partner have is no longer love, or maybe it never was.

On the release of "moshpit," renforshort shares, "I started working on 'moshpit' on a day that I was really overwhelmed with life in general. This song feels very unique in the writing, it's an interesting analogy especially with the juxtaposition of the track being a bit softer rather than what you'd imagine a song called 'moshpit' would sound like. It's about an annoying relationship where you're treated like garbage and just keep trying to get out, but you don't wanna risk hurting the other person's feelings."

Accompanying the release of "moshpit" is its official music video. Directed by Zack Bailey, the video follows renforshort through a multitude of isolated scenarios: scrolling through her phone in her bedroom, daydreaming on the night bus, nervously sitting in an empty waiting room. In the midst of her daydreams, she is transported into a retro-futuristic world filled with glowing lights, flashing machines, and mysterious creatures. The chaos of the sci-fi fantasy ren finds herself in amplifies the emotional intensity of "moshpit."

"moshpit" is ren's first release since her 2021 EP off saint dominique. This spring, the alt-pop up and comer will be supporting Tai Verdes on his North American tour.
