SWEET SPINE's ‘break//neck’ Is Absolute Fuel for Ferocious Fun

We’ve loved the blistering energy three-piece Carolina band SWEET SPINE has managed to put together over the past few years, and on their sophomore album, break//neck, a brash confidence can’t be contained amidst a depth in songwriting that is befitting of the best of current gritty rock.

But why attempt a mind meld when we can get the band to unravel the spirit behind the album directly, "break//neck for us isn’t anything new; it’s something that has been within our lives for over a year and has heavily shaped our mental landscape, both in and out of our musical career. It’s our first project that truly feels like 'ours,' and truthfully, it’s the first body of work that has ever felt like a 'Sweet Spine' project. Up until the recording process of the album, all of our previous songs were written and recorded in our singer’s (Fox’s) bedroom. For the first time ever, we had the opportunity to go into a studio together, and it made us feel more connected to the project than ever before.”

“We got the opportunity to work with some amazingly talented producers, with 'Lights Out' produced by Joel Hamilton and the rest of the album recorded and produced by August Axcelson on a farm in New Jersey. It was tough to hand over our baby—this project—to other people; it’s something we had never done, and we were very anxious about it. But ultimately, it made for a better project in the end. We explored a lot of new sounds, and that is something that will never stop.”

If you need some proper road music—loud, hand out the window, music for the coming weekend and beyond—then look no further than break//neck, it's the absolute fuel for ferocious fun. Stay safe but go at a breakneck speed with SWEET SPINE and you’ll be rewarded.
