Theo Moss Leaves a Lasting Impact With Debut Single "Autopilot"

Theo Moss is making an impact with her debut single “Autopilot,” which marks the beginning of a new artist project from this introspective lyricist. Hailing from Southern California, Moss is no stranger to the music industry. But with this new era, it feels like a clean slate. After spending over 12 years studying violin and discovering her passion for music at a very young age, “Autopilot” departs from her classical roots and ventures into something potently grounded and true to her true artistic voice.

The track starts with a static intro, introducing listeners to this fresh start. “Autopilot” takes off into a breezy guitar-driven pop-rock experience with melodies so addicting they’ll be stuck in your head all day. Moss sings about the feeling of protectiveness, watching someone you love change through suffering. She reflects, “I wrote 'Autopilot' about someone hurting the person you love and feeling angry and powerless. You know you can’t save them but you want them to feel safe again.” This comes through in the underlying sense of dread that cuts through the softness of the track, especially towards the end.

The last minute of “Autopilot” is the result of idle desperation, watching someone you love hurt and feeling helpless about it. She sings, “Can’t tell if I’m helping you” and “I miss you and how it used to be.” Nostalgia is a main theme in this track as it perfectly encapsulates the longing for how things were, and the power of being a companion who can bring people back to happier times, even if it’s just in memories.

“Autopilot” is the first release from Moss and the first taste of her upcoming EP, which explores the journey of self-empowerment and evolving into your true self. If this cozy indie summer bop is any indication of what’s in store, we look forward to hearing more from this intriguing new artist.
