UMI and V of BTS Share a New Year's Gift With "wherever u r"

Say hello to your new favorite comfort song. Collaborating with BTS member V, UMI delivers the ethereal love song “wherever u r,” an ode to connection that pulsates across bodies of water and land.

Reminiscent of Daniel Caesar and Kali Uchi’s “Get You,” this track has all the promise of a love song that stains the pages of your diary. Starting off the new year on a gentle note, there’s nothing like a sweet love song that is effortlessly lightweight and poised. A poem every prose, “wherever u r” asks nothing more from you than surrender.

The K-pop industry has been in mourning with the gaping void of BTS’ momentary pause, though moments like these serve as a reminder that their talent will forever surpass circumstance. V is currently serving his mandatory military service after enlisting on December 11, though the single releasing on the date of his birthday is a tangible reminder that he’s never too far and will be back in the warmth of his supporter’s embrace soon.

Fans of each other before finally getting to work together, UMI and V’s voices mesh together like tea and honey on “wherever u r,” and the subject matter is no coincidence, as their co-writing and collaborating had to take place completely digitally and thousands of miles apart. Sharing the song as a kiss to the aching and lonely, UMI shares via Instagram “This song is a gift from me and V. I wrote it as a reminder that love is a frequency that can be felt no matter the distance.”
