YŪNGOLD Release Fiery Debut EP 'Force of Habit'

Hereford's sonic firestarters YŪNGOLD have unleashed their debut EP, Force of Habit. The record is a sweltering dive into alternative rock that's as raw as electrifying. Born from late-night jams and a rogue fuzz pedal, this 4-piece is ready to cement its place as one of the UK's most exhilarating new acts.

The record opens with "Centre of the Earth," which blasts the door down with high speed, gritty guitar riffs, and larger-than-life energy. In the production, a slight echo gives it an almost arena-ready feel, but the sorrowful, smoky vocals smooth over the boisterous sound. Although the vocals don't get lost in the mix here, they surrender to the insanity of the instrumentation in such a beautiful way, creating a layering effect that adds to that aforementioned arena-ready sound.

The EP keeps its energy up on the following track, "Completely Numb." Although this song brings a more angsty vocal style and lyrical content than the first, there's still that undeniable sense of power that's signature to the band. Amid the sustained intensity, there's a subtle sense of pain in the vocals that keeps you hanging on every word and every beat throughout this nearly five-minute-long song.

On "Fucking for L*ve," the band doesn't waste any time hooking us with their hard-hitting killer instrumentals, and that's exactly how this track starts. With its edgy riffs, crisp drumbeat showers, and lyrics that show off the group's down-to-earth humor, especially my fav, "I just learned how to work a fucking washing machine/ Pina Colada in a pitcher and it's all for me," it's unabashedly honest about what it's like to emerge into adulthood with absolutely no clue what you're doing.

The EP concludes with the anthemic and stunning "Cult." It not only showcases the band's power and lyrical prowess but also serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of music. This deeply relatable finale tops a collection that feels specially crafted for every listener, serving as a testament to the band's unwavering power, passion, love, and ability to connect with their audience deeply and emotionally.
