BANKS' "Gimme" Reminds Us Why We Originally Fell in Love With the Dark Pop Star

BANKS' The Altar was released nearly three years ago to widespread critical acclaim and international success. The sophomore album, which received similar praise to her impeccable debut album, Goddess, highlighted the myriad of reasons why we have been championing this artist as one to watch since 2013.

Yet, the last few years have been sorely absent of any new music from the transfixing pop artist who whisked up a storm with her intoxicating fusion of atmospheric alternative pop and contemporary R&B. Well, at least that was the case until today. "Gimme," the first single from BANKS in far too long, is a profound reminder of her ability to incite feelings of intense passion and unabashed self-love in the span of three short minutes. On her long-awaited return to music, BANKS shared,

"'Gimme' is a song about getting what you want. It's about knowing what you deserve, saying it out loud, and demanding it with no apologies. I'm ready to release this into the world and begin a new chapter."

Co-written with Buddy Ross (Frank Ocean) and co-produced by BJ Burton (Bon Iver) and Hudson Mohawke of Kanye West and TNGHT fame, "Gimme" amps up the moody soundscape we have come to expect from a BANKS single ten-fold. With its distorted production and hypnotic vocal effects, we fully believe BANKS when she utters the words "You can call me that bitch." "Gimme" marks more than the return of our favorite dark pop star, it signals a new age of BANKS, and it is one we are dying to watch unfold.
