Los Angeles based Alt-pop prodigy FINNEAS wasted no time showing the world his undeniable control of our heartstrings upon release of his debut project "Blood Harmony" in October of 2019. Quickly cementing himself as a flagship purveyor of all things unabashed young love. Less than a full year after its initial rollout, the critically acclaimed solo project is receiving a Deluxe Edition. Complete with the inclusion of fan favorite single "Break My Heart Again" and a decisively different alternate take on the project's lead single "Let's Fall in Love for the Night."
The new version, titled "Let's Fall in Love for the Night (1964)" sees FINNEAS stripping back the original track's bouncy drums and plucky guitar, opting instead for a downtempo, vibraphone-soaked rendition. Showing a distinctly softer side to the now Gold certified ode to reckless love, FINNEAS describes how these two versions came about,
"When I was originally producing this song, it took me down two different directions. One inspired by the rhythms I loved in Outkast and Gorillaz songs which became the original production and the other, which became this. A production inspired by the vinyl I loved and listened to throughout my childhood."
"1964" feels in a word, deliberate. Recontextualizing the track to feel more like a sweet-nothing lullaby than the upbeat danceable hit that gained the track its initial popularity. If the original cut was evocative of a first date, "1964" is judgement-free sweatpants and Chinese takeout in bed. Charming, comfortable and undeniably intimate.
The Blood Harmony Deluxe Edition comes on the heels of "my future" yet another home run collaboration from the now ubiquitous co-writing duo of FINNEAS and younger sister Billie Eilish. With each subsequent track continuing to prove the young collaborators are well beyond their years both sonically and emotionally, one can't help but wonder if there is something to this whole homeschool thing. Judging by this family's seeming inability to miss, we here at Ones to Watch await their next release with bated breath.
