Myles Cameron's "Counting Sheep" Is an Illustration of Isolation, Hope, and Love

The elegance and grandiose sensibilities that accompany a Myles Cameron record are a cherished cornerstone. Each release, whether upbeat in attitude or slower and introspective, finds Cameron at the helm of a ship that manages to always touch the warmest part of our spirit. His latest release, "Counting Sheep," is nothing if not another shining example of Cameron's continued ability to exude a talent that we find attractive on the merit of emotional appeal, not superficial packaging.

Brought to life by misleading minimalistic production, that feels both ethereal and simultaneously grounded, Cameron's new single is a swelling combination of isolation, hope, and ultimately, love. The New York-based vocalist paints a vivid picture of growing up as a "black child in the background" of American suburbia.

Consumed by severance of his surroundings, Cameron's remembrance of this moment in time is brightened by the recollection of young love. Moments filled with laughter, intimacy, reliance, and honesty all culminate to create this time-capsule of emotion that is gorgeously mirrored by the song's grandiose production. Cameron spoke on the creation and meaning of his latest release, sharing,

"'Counting Sheep' happened while we were recording in my grandparents' house one weekend in August. I'd had the idea for the story told in the lyrics for a little while, but I didn't have the emotional ammo to write it until I met this girl and literally had the experience I'd been trying to write about. I wrote the chords and then our homie, Commonminds, who was staying with us started humming this little melody. I basically forced him to record it (he's not a singer, but autotune fixed that) which became the intro. Once we had those two elements down the rest of the song just materialized in 30 minutes. Our friend Corey from the band Bathe added the killer guitar solo at the end."

This is Cameron's first single release of the new year as well as the lead single from his forthcoming  Black Sheep EP. To no surprise, "Counting Sheep" continues a lineage of incredibly masterful records that not only showcase Cameron's vocal chops but his unbelievable songwriting ability, capturing some of the more nuanced subjects of our world. There is no denying that this next chapter of Myles Cameron will be something to not only look forward to but to cherish.
