NIKI's  "lowkey" Is a Neo-R&B Ode to Authentic Relationships

The first female artist ever signed to 88rising, NIKI is definitely making the one-of-a-kind music collective proud as she follows up her 2018 breakout EP, Zephyr, with what is poised to be a series of stunning releases. The Indonesian R&B artist got her promising start on YouTube, where she spent most of her mid-teens sharing videos of herself singing acoustic songs. Drawing on influences of R&B and pop of the late 90s, NIKI is now treating us to her glossy new throwback single "lowkey."

Produced by NIKI and Z3N (Lil Wayne, Tory Lanez), "lowkey" is a glittery R&B tune layered with delicate synths and NIKI's effervescent vocals. This impeccable song sees NIKI reflecting on an ephemeral love that shouldn't be exposed publicly for the entire world to judge. With elements of neo-R&B, "lowkey" serves as a generous preview of NIKI's forthcoming EP, wanna take this downtown?, which is set for release this spring.

On  "lowkey," NIKI reflected,

“It’s a really cool track, because it’s an honest, pretty frontal subject. To not make it what it’s not, to keep things lowkey… but it’s set against the backdrop of innocence and almost has a coy delivery and tone, which I was very intentional about.”
