When I first saw the news of Oliver Malcolm signing to Darkroom/Interscope Records, I felt like I had heard of him before but couldn’t quite put my finger on where. But then after some digging, I realized he was behind some of my favorite artists’ songs and let me tell you, I am ready for him to come with new music in 2020.

Starting his escapades when he was only 12 in the UK, Malcolm bought himself some turntables to play music on for friends and family before “upgrading” to a jailbreak version of Logic that he then began to mess around on. Fast forward a year later, he’s moved to Los Angeles because of his mom’s job, and he’s running around the underground hip-hop scene giving out USBs full of his beats. It wasn’t long before a few artists caught on and Malcolm, then known as Big Kidd, was being pulled into rooms with Jay Rock, MF Doom, D12, and more.

Since then, Malcolm has decided to write his own narrative with his artist project that will be bringing new music in 2020, which I couldn’t be more excited for. More recent cuts of his include favorites spanning the likes IDK, AlunaGeorge, Masego, and Ari Lennox.

The fact he is also a multi-instrumentalist and 100% writes, produces, and mixes his own records is insane. Combine that with the news that he signed to Darkroom/Interscope Records, and it is safe to say Oliver Malcolm is a name we will be seeing and hearing a lot more from before long.
