Arden Jones Proves to Be the Gift That Keeps Giving With ‘age tape 9’

It's hard to keep up with Arden Jones; his seemingly endless reservoir for youth-savvy melodrama lyrics bundled into pop nuggets keeps producing work at a pace unnerving to all but the most prodigious of talents. In age tape 9, the SoCal native delivers more of his memorable, soon-to-be patented surfer soul: a melange of breezy beats, punchy but optimistic lyrics, and injections of melody brought to life by a wide range of bright instruments.

Kicking off with "careless" an off-kilter, Jones lays down a slugging beat interspersed by aromatic melodies that seems to drift over his' longing emotive lyrics that resonate more and more as the building guitar part makes its way to the outro. "Sabrina" is a playful boy meets girl journey, a fun story with a wet hi-hit groove and a very bright guitar that sets like the sun. Lastly "viisine" is a longing, self-pleading track about a beauty that is out of reach in all but dreams, building over an organ and bass-filled rhythm that pulses like a heart fluttering.

It's telling that with the quality of this collection of songs, it feels like Arden Jones is just dialing in his sound, growing from beach-filled ukulele vibes to something more crosstown dynamic. Count us in for the ride.
