Baseball Game Makes A Captivating Debut With the Idyllic "Woman"

Los Angeles/Nashville team Adam Carpenter and Jason Bennett are new to the music space. With only one song out and a few live shows under their belts, the duo have kept a low profile up until now. Now, Carpenter and Bennett - who perform as Baseball Game - are making their grand entrance with the captivating, "Woman."

The single arrives as the first glimpse of the duo's debut EP. A nod to Baseball Game's roots in both Nashville and Los Angeles, "Woman" intertwines the comforting and familiar timbres of folk with the refreshing modernity of pop.

"Woman" is an idyllic daydream filled with hazy synths, soothing percussion, and Fleetwood Mac-esque riffs. The breezy vocals deliver a splash of summer that captures the fleeting nature of romantic infatuation. On "Woman", the lilt of the guitar and the calming repetition of Bennett on the bass pluck out a brief moment in time.

In a recent press release, Carpenter and Bennett spoke further on the single, saying,

"'Woman' originated from a demo made last spring. We wanted the song musically to feel like we were in a trance, the same way we felt when watching random YouTube videos of people dancing to slow disco from the 70s without sound. Lyrically, it ties into our other songs but with more of a present day perspective on a relationship. It talks about being infatuated with another person that you're either in a relationship with, or possibly pursuing one. Another take on it would be trying to fill an empty gap and finding a source of excitement/happiness for a moment in time, when you haven't felt it. Doesn't necessarily mean we're talking only of a relational idea. This could be anything that acts as a distraction that you don't mind being distracted by."

As the two suggest, the refrain "Woman on my mind, stay" refers to a welcome distraction from the dull routine of real life. Carpenter and Bennett implore the subject of their infatuation to reside in their imagination a little bit longer, inviting us to explore that dreamlike state with them.

Baseball Game's self-titled EP is out August 7 via House Arrest. Stream  "Woman" below:
