One of my favorite random facts is that simply existing in nature can positively impact your physical and emotional wellbeing. It makes sense why people like to take photos anytime the sky paints itself pink or why hiking through a forest can feel so rejuvenating. All of this is to say that BENEE is back with her latest release "Beach Boy," an alt-pop tune that reminds us that nature (and more specifically, the ocean) heals all.

Just because it's February does not mean that we can't pretend it's summer. "Beach Boy" channels the energy of a  '60s beach flick, filled with rainbow snow cones, striped towels, and the faint taste of salt floating through the air. Over dreamy guitars and subtle synths, the Kiwi breakout star fantasizes about escaping to sunnier horizons with her "beach boy." In the chorus, she sings, "Ur my beach boy, be my beach babe / Even if it's only for a day / Be my beach babe." BENEE sings with a subtle smoothness which, when weaved between the track's whimsical production, makes for an easy, breezy listen.

BENEE explains, "'Beach Boy' is pure fantasy, set in LA. It's about being happy alone, but still wanting some love; wanting the thrill without the pain. It was the first time I'd worked with Greg Kurstin, and it was so sick…we got on super well, and I love this track…I think it is perfect for cruising down the freeway with the top down :)"

BENEE is right. "Beach Boy" reminds me of summer drives down PCH with the windows rolled down. It's one of those songs that you just can't help but move along to and press "replay" when it's done. "Beach Boy" marks BENEE's 2022 debut alongside the announcement of her forthcoming EP LYCHEE, set to release March 4.
