Charmer Are Trapped In The Past On Anthemic New Single "Arrowhead" | THE NOISE

Hailing from Michigan's rugged Upper Peninsula, Charmer stands out with their distinct sound in their new song, "Arrowhead." With its immediate catharsis, this powerful track is a testament to the band's unique musical identity. Drawing inspiration from the driving, anthemic vibes of early Alkaline Trio and Bayside, Charmer's sound is a bold re-introduction to a band that refuses to be confined by any genre.

From the first lines, "Got me tangled in ivy, like a smile with too much teeth," Charmer paints a poignant picture of something beautiful yet suffocating. The quiet instrumentation, with its shimmering guitars and steady percussion, mirrors the slow unraveling of the song's protagonist. The song delves into the idea of entrapment, whether in past mistakes, an unshakable fate, or a cycle of self-destruction that keeps repeating. Lyrically, "Arrowhead" carries a profound sense of helplessness, with the narrator seemingly losing control over the story. The haunting chorus reinforces this with the question, "Arrowhead in the sky, are you coming for my dreams tonight?"

The single will feature on Charmer's third album, Downpour, their first in five years, which arrives May 23. It blends the melodic intensity of the late 90s Long Island punk scene with the unique, dreamy, melancholic vibes of The Cranberries and The Cure. Throughout the album, vocalist/guitarist David Daignault reflects on life in the isolated UP, a bittersweet pursuit of creativity, and healing from trauma in the wake of new parenthood.

Downpour offers longtime Charmer fans a familiar sound and showcases the band's growth, making us all proud. With the addition of guitarist Neil Berg, bassist Zack Alworden, and drummer Nick Erickson, Daignault's soul-stirring vocal performance leads the band across a record that combines passion and precision. Across its eleven tracks, "Downpour " captures both the intensity of their past and the bittersweet blank page ahead, promising an exciting journey for the band and their fans.
