Conan Gray's  "Maniac" Proves That the Scariest Thing This Halloween Is Your Ex

Spooky season is in full swing and with Halloween just around the bend, it seems that resurrections are beginning to occur left and right. With the rising dead and ex-partners attempting to resurface back into our lives (all thanks to mercury in retrograde), one resurgence we are actually happy to welcome is the new prince of pop, Conan Gray. The Texas native's new single and video, “Maniac,” arrives just in time for Halloween and stars none other than Jessica Barden, who you may recognize from the hit Netflix series The End of the F***ing World.

“Maniac” is jam-packed with magnetizing pop synths, a stimulating dance-hall bass, and Gray’s energizing vocals, howling out to the moon, and in turn, letting a person from his past know that he's not planning on going back. The song is absolutely addictive. Play it once and we guarantee it will be on repeat until the next blood moon. To make matters even better, "Maniac" serves as the lead single for his highly-anticipated debut album, which is set for release early 2020.

Beyond serving as a prime example as to why your ex is best left in the graveyard that is your read receipts,  "Maniac" is a testament to how far Gray has come in such a short time.  In less than two years Gray has received praise from BTS, Troye Sivan, Billie Eilish, and more. Despite his large following, Conan’s journey to stardom was not smooth sailing. As a young child in middle school, he was often viewed as the "weird" or  "different" kid and was greatly  disregarded by his peers. As a method of coping with his alienation, he took to vlogging and creating music that reflected all of his inner emotions. Young Conan was strapped with nothing more than GarageBand and a cheap microphone taped to a desk lamp when he released his viral single “Idle Town.”

Cut to now and we bear witness to an artist who made his television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers, opened for Panic! At the Disco, headlined a European tour, sold out a North American headlining tour, and made his festival debut Lollapalooza. The world belongs to Bonan Gray.
