Meet horsegiirL, the Equine Producer Making Club Music For the Barbie Horse Adventure Girls

There are artists, and there are performers. There are looks served, and there is avant-garde. A bold declaration of sleigh, horsegiirL is impossible to understand, and that’s why we’re all enthralled.

The Berlin-based DJ and producer galloped right out of the barn and into one of the most lively Boiler Room sets in recent, memory, amongst many of the other iconic milestones she’s accomplished in just a short amount of time. Nothing is known about the DJ outside of the fact that her name is Stella and that she was discovered at a harvest festival by famous pop singer Whitney Horseton, yet somehow, that’s all we really need to know.

Reviving techno with her happy hardcore, horsegiirL undoubtedly belongs behind the knobs. Her viral single “My Barn, My Rules” has earned her over 13 million streams on Spotify, a ravenous TikTok following, and DJ sets that have taken her around the globe, booked from London to Miami.

Hooves and snout in tow, fashion is never at the expense of her hybrid horse body. Donning designer corsets and Jean Paul Gaultier jackets, her Instagram is an it-girl goldmine, from farm to runway. “My style has definitely evolved with time,” she shares. “When I first started out, I was quite innocent and sweet, and as much as I still love pinks and pastels, I’m becoming increasingly drawn to blacks and browns and special, one-off pieces for shows.”

Not many artists can truthfully say that their music landed them an arrest, nor that they have beef with unicorns. Spinning at events like Berghain, Art Basel, and Marc Jacobs afterparties, it’s the ridiculousness of it all that burns her name on everyone’s minds and has us all questioning whether or not we’ve given horse rights enough considerable thought.

The kind of act we only have the privilege of witnessing once every few decades, horsegiirL takes “commitment to the bit” to new heights. With no plans to reveal her true identity, we can only comfortably get more acquainted with the farm fatale in front of us. So what’s her take on this newfound world of human fame? In horsegiirL’s own words, “I’m just a girlie from the barn that is increasingly enjoying city life and the world of fashion.”
