Baseball Game Are Caught Between Hope and Regret in "Fall in Line"

Los Angeles/Nashville indie duo Baseball Game has released another captivating single wrapped in warm nostalgia with their latest effort, "Fall in Line," produced by Nathan Cimino. The pair, comprised of Adam Carpenter and Jason Bennett, dive into heartbreak and longing with an unmatched vulnerability, hooking us into the tender sonic space they've created despite its short yet bittersweet run time.

The track, which according to the band, began in a car in California and was finished on a boat in Nashville, opens with smoldering guitar riffs laced with reverb that blend into layers of subtle piano lines and steady percussion. Carpenter's smooth, tender vocals paint a scene of someone being let down and waiting for their partner to "finally fall in line."

Aside from the extremely relatable themes of being disappointed by a careless partner, the band shares that the single could also be interpreted differently. Bennett explains that the track could also be seen as "...a confrontation to all the lies we make up to make sense of all of the reasons we aren't where we think we should be."

"We were inspired by simple folk songs, and the lyric 'i'm just waiting until you finally fall in line' was already in our heads and felt like a great start to a song," says the duo. "So we started singing it in all sorts of ways, but it didn't feel right yet, and we sat on it until a few months later, we had a writing trip in Nashville. We were looking to get out of the sometimes sterile studio setting, so we rented a boat on a lake in Tennessee, drove it to the middle of the lake, parked it, and for hours played the chords and sang melodies until the song was done that day. Both of us had been reflecting on our lives and realized we needed to write a song where the tense of the writer was interchangeable. Not sure if it's hopeful or filled with regret."

"Fall In Line" follows the release of their recent single "Crocodile Tears," both of which will be featured on their upcoming sophomore EP Whatever You Want Me To Be, set to release early this summer.
