Jay Hurtt VI Charts a Reflective Cross-Country Journey in “Rollin Like a Dice”

Who are we to judge the dimmed wits and weary eyes of those huddled behind the wheels of automobiles chasing dreams, letting the horizon pull them across continents? It’s no different for us, always driving to find that song that rips through our prefrontal cortex like sinful indulgence, a fix for a feeling yet unfound, a proper crack at pop delirium. That disorienting beauty, like a cool crashed wave over your hot skin is the very feeling Jay Hurtt VI’s debut cast upon us—a sense of momentum, turbulent and impossible to forget.

"For this Hawaii-born songwriter, who self-produced the track as well, the origin story is equally as excessive and cinematic. “I wrote this song about a road trip with my ex," shares Jay Hurtt VI. "While I was on tour, she landed a job as an executive assistant for a 'big-time' Hollywood guy. We were in Charleston then, but she had 'two weeks' to move. We met up at my final show in Atlanta and, with a friend, drove her Jeep cross-country, towing her life in a U-Haul. We made it to LA in four days, fueled by prescription amphetamines. I wrote and recorded the track in 40 minutes, sitting on her bed the night we finished moving her in.”

If that doesn’t incentivize you to roll the dice and listen, then you my friend are deaf in the heart.
