Bridging 90s indie folk-rock and nu quiet-pop, mixing lyrics between English and Spanish, Marta Knight’s newest EP is a remarkable leap in her already distinct sound. The Barcelonian artist is blessed with a beautiful, distinctive voice and on her latest EP Unbothered, she's seems just that on composition conventions and the results are a beautiful mix pleasant & moody excesses, loud chords and tight transitions, this is simply put an excellent EP:

OnesToWatch: Who is Marta Knight?

Marta Knight: Marta Knight is a songwriter exploring the ups and downs of growing up through her music: mental health, self-love, friendships, etc. She processes her thoughts and emotions in her songs, trying to find clarity through them.

What is ‘Unbothered’ all about?

Unbothered is about trying to be your own best friend, knowing your flaws and vulnerabilities and choosing to stand up for yourself anyway.

We love your multilingual sound. How did that come together?

I’m based in Spain, and since Spanish is the language I use in daily life, I wanted to explore a more raw form of communication and the vulnerability of singing in one’s native language.

Any collaborators or features?

Not on this EP, but before that I collaborated with the Spanish band Cora Yako and featured on a song of my friend Carlota Flaneur. It’s always magical when collaborations come from mutual admiration and you sit down to share ideas together, I'd love to work with more artists I admire in the future.

Who produced the EP?

The EP was produced by Pau Riutort, who also co-produced my first album. I really admire the simplicity with which he approaches songs, and the creativity he brings to shaping their sound.

Do you have a dream place you'd love to perform or tour in?

An NPR Tiny Desk has always been a dream place! And also I’d love to tour in the UK, since a lot of my biggest influences come from there.

Besides this excellent EP, what else should we be on the lookout for?

I’m currently touring Unbothered, but after that I’d love to take time to write and record a second full-length album.

What’s inspiring you right now outside of music?

Video games, my friends, and cooking hearty meals with way too many ingredients.

Make us the best meal to enjoy while listening to your EP… what is it?

For the full experience, probably my mom’s chickpea stew. It’s the meal I ate the most while writing the EP because I moved back home for a few months during the writing process, so it became kind of my comfort food haha.

Musically, who’s new but making all the right moves? Who are your current OnesToWatch?

My favorite artist right now is DellaXOZ. And a friend recently introduced me to Glasshouse Red Spider Mite, I’ve been listening to them a lot.
