mazie Delivers a Sex-Positive Anthem For the Girls With "girls just wanna have sex"

Baltimore native mazie continues to demand the world's attention with the release of her latest single, "girls just wanna have sex." The cheeky head-banger sees mazie reframing female pleasure outside the male gaze with maximalist sonics and flirty, stream-of-thought lyrics.

"girls just wanna have sex" is a grandiose track that thrives on throwing together blown-out guitars and energetic drums to create an in-your-face anthem for girls to mosh to while screaming about getting head. From the beginning, the artist immediately paints a scene full of tension with climatic instruments bursting. At the same time, she sings, "Her hands are on my neck she's got a grip / She can turn me on just like a switch / It really gets me goin' when she tells me just like this." mazie explains, "I believe that women having sex—especially sex with other women—needs to be celebrated and destigmatized."

The stunning production is courtesy of Grammy-nominated Joe London and Platinum-selling Elie Rizk, mazie's childhood neighbor (a friendship that began at age 15 and resulted in the pair moving out to LA together). Elie Rizk has also worked with Bella Poarch ("Build a Bitch"), Remi Wolf ("Quiet On Set"), and Keshi ("TOUCH").

The accompanying visualizer is a mind-melting piece of art that takes viewers down a proverbial rabbit hole full of pastel and increasingly psychedelic visuals. We see maize in a bed with three other women singing along to her song in quick-cut scenes that switch between scenes of the group making out with each other. But then, shit gets weird. I won't lie, the first time I watched this music video, I thought my computer was broken. And then I read that this was the "trippy fairy edit," and it made so much more sense why everyone started to blur and disintegrate.

"girls just wanna have sex" follows the success of her previous viral single "dumb dumb," which was featured on the soundtrack of Netflix's original film Do Revenge. The release of "girls just wanna have sex" also arrives alongside the announcement of mazie's debut album, blotter baby, set to release in Spring 2023.
