Men I Trust Return to Form in “Ring of Past”

When Men I Trust dropped their last album, Untourable Album, in 2021, fans rejoiced upon receiving new music from one of their favorite (and most elusive) artists. Amid their mirth and celebration, nobody would anticipate that the next year would see their hunger for new music met with almost harrowing silence from the Canadian dream pop trio. After 18 months and three pristine singles, it’s safe to say that the Men I Trust drought is real, but luckily our luck seems to be turning around in 2023.

Early last week Men I Trust made their welcome return with the slick new banger “Ring of Past,” a nostalgic and dulcet track that hopefully serves as a harbinger for more new music to come. Decorated with energetic basslines and airy vocals that effortlessly bleed from your speakers, “Ring of Past” is a perfect display of Men I Trust’s affinity for retrofuturism and clever songwriting. Synthesizing their signature pop style with elements of indie jazz and an unmistakable aura of vintage ambience, Men I Trust’s new track is more than a flawless return to form; it’s a hopeful look into the future from one of modern music’s most underrated acts.

Though admittedly Men I Trust may have graduated from the title of “one to watch” years ago with Oncle Jazz, the importance of keeping them on your radar hasn’t changed. Though the halcyon days of “Show Me How” are long gone, Men I Trust continue to deserve both your eyes and ears with every release, and I’m hoping we get many more releases like “Ring of Past” this year.
