New Haven Duo Showpony "Shine" On Stellar Debut Single

New Haven's newest rock outfit, showpony, a unique collaboration between solo artists Aaron Taos & Tyler Lindsay, unveil their debut single, "Shine." The sound, a fusion of New Haven's grit and charm, is built on a sonic bedrock of dark, droning, distorted guitars and a top layer of Taos and Lindsay's vocal harmony.

The track opens with haunting guitar strums and rich bass grooves that deliver a western, quasi-gothic aftertaste. Taos croons amid the buzzing production, painting a scene of a protagonist straddling the land of the living and the dying. As she smiles and says goodbye to the world, the singer-songwriter analogizes her farewell to one last performance, singing, "Wait to bow the audience/ is screaming for one more/ Baby it's your last encore/ your time to shine in the spotlight." On the infectious yet melancholic chorus, the duo and the metaphorical audience cheer on the hero as she graces the stage with her presence, admitting that you can't help but cry when you see a star do what it does best, shine.

“‘Shine’ is a fictional story about a stage performer who ends her career in dramatic fashion - in a blazing fit of glory,” said Taos about the single. “It’s all a bit theatrical but it’s good fun.”

Taos and Lindsay, both proud natives of New Haven, share a unique bond that transcends their musical partnership. Born and raised within minutes of each other, their paths didn't cross until their 20s. Lindsay, a barber at New Haven's Skull & Combs, a shop frequented by Taos, sparked a friendship rooted in their shared love for musical heroes, Queens Of The Stone Age, Oasis, and Arctic Monkeys. This deep connection to their city is a driving force behind their music.

Speaking on the band's formation, Taos shared, "He moved out to LA recently to be an assistant engineer for the late great Atmos mixer Mike Miller. We reconnected last year and decided it'd be awesome to form a more raw rock-leaning project that represented where we're both from." Sick of lighter pop music, they wanted to create something darker that represented their sonic roots from growing up playing in bands and represented their beloved city.
