They say distance makes the heart grow fonder, but in some cases, it can do quite the opposite. With the combination of technology and varying time zones, maintaining a relationship in the 21st century takes effort. Today, Porsh Bet$ dropped the official music video for his latest single "Things In The Way," a tune tackling the endless fomo that comes with being far away from the person who matters most.

Despite its bittersweet subject matter, "Things In The Way" is one of those songs that you cannot help but groove along to. Porsh fuses together synth-pop and hip-hop in his own way, singing over a bouncy bassline that pulsates between '80s-inspired synthesizers and a simple drum beat. If the feeling of a beating heart was turned into a song, this is what I imagine it would sound like.

The fervent instrumentals accompany Porsh as he lists off all of the troubles caused by coast to coast love, from a hated job, fake friends, to late bills. The more he realizes the root of these problems, the more bitter he gets. At the peak of his frustration, he sings, "I don't wanna beg for your heart / I'm just gonna sit and play my part / for you."

Accompanything the release of "Things In The Way" is its official music video. Co-directed by Isaiah Suko and Porsh himself, the video captures the conflicting feelings brought upon by a long distance relationship. We watch as Porsh and his lover enjoy the little things - wandering along rooftops, dancing in the sun, drinking wine in the afternoon - until suddenly, Porsh is kidnapped and held hostage. The conflicting plotlines are juxtaposed, until ultimately, Porsh's fate is met with bright flames.

"The song is about the obstacles in a long distance relationship, so I thought the kidnapping scene would be an interesting metaphor for the things in life that sometimes get in the way of you doing what you want and in this case being able to be with the person you love," Porsh explains.

With his seamless blending of genres and capability to storytell through image and sound, Porsh has yet again proven his worth as a rising artist. "Things In The Way" is the title track from Porsh Bet$' forthcoming sophomore EP due February 2022.
