sophie meiers' "as good as it gets" Is a Lulling, Wistful Daydream

A wistful daydream. It is the best way I can begin to describe sophie meiers' latest lulling meditation.

meiers, whose  avant-garde gothic Lolita fashion sense and shimmering lo-fi pop meditations have grown her an avid online following, makes music in the vein '90s Gwen Stefani if it were produced by Trent Reznor. After escaping a toxic home environment at 14, the singer, songwriter, visual artist, and producer found a makeshift home in the mid-2010's SoundCloud community.

Today, meiers releases "as good as it gets," an iridescent yet melancholic single that sees her looking back as she continues to pave her own way forward. The first song from her forthcoming EP,  "as good as it gets" follows the collaborative single "Cheesin'," which saw her joining forces with Cautious Clay, Still Woozy, Remi Wolf, Claud, Melanie Faye, and HXNS in support of MusiCares' COVID-19 relief fund.

Produced and co-written by GRANDMA, "as good as it gets" is a hypnotic moment of profound reflection. The looping bassline melds with meiers' ethereal vocal coos, giving the repeated line "maybe this is as good as it gets" an otherworldly quality. Wrapped in admitted self-destructive tendencies and words wish left unsaid, meiers cements herself as a somber anti-pop sensation in the making.

meiers is the brilliant byproduct of a generation that is increasingly finding inspiration and a sense of home in online communities, and "as good as it gets" is a serene reflection of that emergent landscape.
