Texas Grit & Nashville Dreams: Austin Michael’s Lonestar Hits No. 1

Texas native Austin Michael’s Lonestar is a testament to grit, determination, and the long road to becoming a country music sensation.

The rising artist first gained national attention at just 15 years old, placing in the top 50 on American Idol. But his success didn’t happen overnight, it’s been years in the making.

Almost a decade later, Austin has carved his own path as an independent artist, blending classic country sounds with a modern flair. That formula has paid off. His new album Lonestar climbed to the No. 1 spot on the country iTunes charts.

“I decided to check the charts and it happened to hit number one. I freaked out. It’s so funny,” he recalls. “I went to screen record as soon as I noticed that it was number one and it wouldn’t let me screen record because my manager was already calling me. Reaching anywhere on the charts is very difficult. And to be able to do it as an independent artist is insane.”

His album surpassed highly acclaimed artists like Ella Langley and Koe Wetzel just three days after its release.

That milestone comes alongside another dream: performing at the legendary Grand Ole Opry. A goal deeply tied to his family.

“If you were to ask me [my dream] a couple weeks ago, I would have said playing the Grand Ole Opry before my grandpa passes or getting a number one on any chart. Now I just played the Grand Ole Opry on the 6th and I placed number one on [the] iTunes chart on the 8th,” he expressed. “It’s so crazy that both of those goals came to fruition in the same weekend.”

The music itself is deeply personal. Austin has writing credits on all 13 tracks, pulling from his own experiences and stories he hopes will resonate with listeners. The result is a collection of songs that reaches deep emotional spaces all while providing a sense of hope.

“It’s definitely an emotional outlook for not only me, but a lot of different people. I think it almost becomes a necessity,” he says.

Among the album’s standout tracks is the title song, Lonestar, which carries layered meaning beneath its surface.

“On the face of it, it seems like an almost self-deprecating song. Like, don’t bet on me, you know? Like, I’m not good for you,” he said. “But to me, metaphorically, it’s the idea of never being good enough and always being an outcast.”

Austin intentionally leaves space for interpretation in his music, allowing songs to evolve alongside listeners and reflect their own journeys.

Six years after his debut self-titled album, he’s focused on creating something timeless that connects listeners through a shared journey.

“I just truly am humbled by this whole situation. It almost feels like I’ve been working for something for so long, wondering if people cared, and I’ve been writing these songs for three years,” he said. “Just to kind of get the validation from everybody that like, man, this guy really put time and effort and thought about this record…and wow, this has helped me through something already.”

After years of hearing “no,” there was never a Plan B for Austin Michael. Now, as his dreams turn into reality, they’re only fueling the next chapter of his journey.

“I think it would be quite naive of me to think that I'm going to accomplish these [goals] overnight,” he said. “It keeps me driven in a direction to always have these goals, and whenever you meet them, you make new ones.”

That mindset is already paying off, with more than 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify—and a relentless drive to keep pushing forward while bringing others along for the ride.

Listen to Lonestar now on all streaming platforms for nearly 40 minutes of pure country—filled with Texas truths and outcast memories.

Don’t be late hopping on the Austin Michael train—his story is one worth watching up close.
