thủy Invents a Rose-Tinted Paradise in Pop-Tinged “cloud 11”

thủy continues to pay homage to her pantheon of early 2000s icons with her candy-coated new single “cloud 11.” If the mythologized “cloud 9” is a figment of culture's imagination, then thủy's “cloud 11” is a honeymoon phase fantasy set into overdrive. She counteracts the suspicion of a relationship being too good to be true and instead leans into a surreal slice of seduction in her endorphin-clad track.

“cloud 11” shimmers like a glossy sheet of film as thuy transports you into her realm of romance. Saturated strings melt over fleeting beats, saccharine vocals, and plummeting rushes of percussion. She sings, “Push me over the edge / Not afraid of the fall / I come with angels and demons / But you want it all.” Like a skydive, thuy captures the uncertain yet unavoidable plunge we take when falling in love with someone new.

“cloud 11” is a refreshing change of pace for thủy as she embraces her pop tendencies and spikes the energy on her infectious new track. Carrying the same depth and decadence as her R&B-leaning discography, but keeping up with the vibrant sonics at play, thủy creates something that’s fittingly out of this world. “cloud 11” is cut straight from a daydream with idyllic lyrics that tell a story of embracing the love we each deserve.

"cloud 11" is set to appear on thủy's forthcoming third project, wings, set to release October 4.
