Meet Una Mia, the Rising R&B Artist Who Has Us Under Her Spell

With only one song out right now, is it too soon to call Una Mia timeless?

While many of us were busy tweeting about sea moss gummies and unpacking Drake lyrics last October (just me?), Una Mia was quietly building an empire of burgeoning yet devoted fans. Following the COLORS Studio performance of her then-unreleased slow burn of a banger, “Lose You,” few artists were making waves in R&B like she was, and it’s not difficult to see why.

Describing her writing style as a "form of a diary entry," Una Mia's music is just as vulnerable as it is transcendent. Blending new age soul music with alternative pop, Mia’s approach to creating music is careful, meticulous, and above all else, refreshing. The Toronto-born singer-songwriter spent her early years knee-deep in classic soul records, listening to everything from Ray Charles to Etta James. Today, the rising star's music is instilled with the same undeniable charm of the legends that preceded her.

“Lose You” is everything you could ever ask for from a soul singer wise beyond her years. Pairing dreamy guitar arpeggios with hypnotic vocal layers, “Lose You” is tender and emotive, a candid snapshot of Una Mia’s psyche that leaves no stone unturned. Her upcoming EP is similarly a celebration of self, an induction into the cultural canon from an artist who really needs no introduction. Tracks like “Lose You” and the upcoming single “Better Care” speak for themselves. Few acts in R&B are as deserving of your eyes and ears right now.
