With Confidence's Jayden Seeley on New Music, Touring Life & Working With New Artists | The Noise [Q&A]

The Noise is Ones to Watch's home for all things punk, hardcore, metal, emo, you name it.

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, fan-favorites With Confidence have created quite the name for themselves here in the US. With three impressive full-length albums under their belt, one of which being last year’s heartfelt self-titled LP, the established pop-punk act is ready to take the next step.

With lead singer/bassist Jayden Seeley making the move from AUS to the States and the recent addition of longtime touring guitar player Scotty Mac, the favorable four-piece is stronger than ever and has expanded their diverse catalog with recent tracks like “City,” “Know You (708)” and “Atlanta.”

Additionally, Seeley has also stayed busy writing and producing for other artists which includes being credited on a track that has over 65 million streams to date.

While out on tour with countrymates Stand Atlantic, With Confidence’s outgoing frontman sat down with The Noise for a quick chat and photo session in the Arizona heat before their sold out set at The Rebel Lounge. To see what Seeley had to say about writing for other artists, touring with Stand Atlantic, and moving to the US, be sure to see below. Afterward, don’t forget to pick up a copy of With Confidence available now via Hopeless Records and grab tickets to the remaining dates of the F.E.A.R. tour here.

You have recently started writing, mixing, and producing for other artists. How do you choose which songs are for other artists vs. which songs you keep for With Confidence? JAYDEN SEELEY: I’ve had the pleasure of working with some super talented artists [over] the past couple years, such as Zach Hood, Ryan Oakes, Set It Off, Stereo Jane, and more. I like working directly with the artists and writing intentionally for their project. So there is less of “writing a song and putting it somewhere” and more of writing the perfect song for that artist. When I’m writing for With Confidence, for example, I’m writing a With Confidence song.

With the recent addition of Scotty Mac as an official member of the band, how did he impact the songwriting process for your self-titled release? Scotty Mac has been a breath of fresh air for the band. His positive attitude and excitement for music has added such an energy to the band. When working on our self-titled release, he brought in multiple ideas that ended up making the album. “Big Cat Judgment Day,” for example, was a chorus he brought me that we ended up finishing together.

You’ve recently made the move from Australia to the US. How has that affected the band and in what ways have you had to adapt? Not being able to rehearse and write on a whim has definitely had an effect. But at the same time, I’m out in LA honing my writing and production skills which has had a positive effect for sure.

This has been your first tour since 2019, how does it feel to be back on the road and how has it been touring with fellow Aussies Stand Atlantic? Incredible! Being back on stage is invigorating. Stand Atlantic have been long-time friends and peers, so this tour has just been one big hang. Usually, it takes a week or two for people to warm up on tour but from day one the vibes have been great.

Now that it’s been just under a year since With Confidence was released, how do you feel about the album and is there anything you would have done differently? What can fans expect next from With Confidence? There’s nothing I would change about the album. It was the exact thing we needed to create as a band at that point in time. That being said, I’m super excited about what future With Confidence sounds like and stoked to start writing new stuff.
