Alessia Cara Brings a Heavenly Air to Alec Benjamin's Breakout Hit, "Let Me Down Slowly"

The story of Alec Benjamin is an underdog tale nearly too good to be true. From being dropped by his label, cutting his teeth playing "parking lot shows" for fans outside of Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan concerts, to becoming one of 2018's breakout artists, Benjamin's rise to prominence feels particularly well-deserved. And as we step into a new year with the profound songwriting talent, it makes all the more sense to revisit the song that kickstarted his astronomical rise in a new light.

"Let Me Down Slowly" is a shining example of Benjamin at his most polished, demonstrating straightforward and vulnerable songwriting acumen that hints at universally-felt pain. It is a song that strikes all the right chords - heartstrings and otherwise. The solo, which was already one of our favorite tracks of last year and was featured on Benjamin's debut mixtape, Narrated For You, has received a newly updated version with added vocals from Alessia Cara. Yes, the same Alessia Cara who took home a Grammy last year for "Best New Artist." The newly formed duet sees Benjamin and Cara trading verses for a reimagined "Let Me Down Slowly" that climbs to heavenly new heights.

Clocking in at just three minutes shy of sonic bliss, the new rendition retains all the hallmarks of what made "Let Me Down Slowly" such a raw and powerful single in the first place. The understated emotional outpours of Benjamin are matched beautifully by Cara's whispered pleas to create a match made in heaven. This is the sort of remix dreams are made of.
