Mini Trees'  "Want Me To Stay" Is an Ethereal Portrait of Unrequited Love

The atmosphere of Mini Trees' "Want Me To Stay" feels like driving down a familiar road on an overcast day, with your hand out the car window letting the wind steer its fateful direction. A song about trying to move on from unrequited love told by a hopeless romantic, Mini Trees' bittersweet wish is all too relatable.

Lexi Vega, the brainchild behind Mini Trees, emerged as an artist after playing drums around LA's indie music scene for several years before releasing her first single in July of 2018.

"Want Me To Stay" is a perfectly pleasant listen. It tastefully incorporates enough interesting elements while simultaneously embodying how less is oftentimes more. Vega delivers an intimate vocal performance, punchy drum line, and a soothing series of guitar riffs. Each time that it comes, the chorus lands peacefully, as if sung with an air of weightlessness.

"Want Me To Stay" marks the second single from Mini Trees' sophomore EP, Slip Away, set to release May 29. The EP grapples with broad questions around self-acceptance and what it means to achieve happiness.

With how intimate and relatable "Want Me To Stay" is, we should all prepare ourselves for more effortlessly empathic music soon to come from Mini Trees, as I am sure it will not fail to tug at our heartstrings yet again.
