Adan Diaz Realizes He's A "Jerk x2" in Laidback New Single

Adan Diaz, the rising Mexican-American singer and songwriter, has returned with "jerk x2," a standout indie-pop track. The song, which he had previously been teasing on socials and while on tour supporting Good Kid for the last few months across the US, delivers a bold and playful production and a memorable anthemic melody that will stay with you all day.

"jerk x2" opens with mellow acoustic guitar riffs and understated percussion patterns. Diaz's sweet yet emotive vocals paint a scene of decadence, musing over cigarettes on his partner's terrace and eating angel hair for breakfast. He finds himself choking on his words and overwhelmed with embarrassment, expressing, "It's never what you do to me / It's always what I do to you / 'Cause I'm a dog with flaws / And I just hope you see that too ."

In the vulnerable chorus, he opens up about how he wishes to be more like his partner, who can talk to parents without issue and has "a mansion out in Paris." However, despite their desire to transform and evolve into someone like that, he laments, "But I'll never be that I'm a jerk (x2)." Overall, this single is a reflection of Diaz's personal experiences, inspired by moments in his life when he acted out and the subsequent feelings of regret.

The accompanying music video, directed by Aris Chatman, opens with the artist sitting with his double in a white, unending room. Singing to the camera, illustrations created by Kieran Shaw add a whimsical flair to the otherwise existential and isolated set that Diaz is stuck spiraling in.

As for what the future holds for this rising star, he has shared that he and his producer, Sean Kennedy, who has worked with artists like Slush Puppy, GAYLE, and UPSAHL, are working on an EP that will follow a handful of singles throughout the summer.
