ALEXSUCKS Make Their Return With Self-Deprecating New Single “Worm in the sun”

After a cold winter without the LA-based quartet, ALEXSUCKS is back, baby! Their first release of 2025, "Worm in the sun," is an absolute banger that teases bigger things to come. Wielding scuzzy guitar riffs, raw vocals, and driving garage punk percussion, this single is a nostalgic return to everything we love from the four-piece.

"Worm in the sun" opens with warm guitar riffs, easing the listener in before bursting into a high-octane blend of throbbing bass lines, crashing percussion patterns, and grimy guitar riffs. Lead singer Alex Alvarez's raw, raspy vocals illustrate the decay and messiness of his life. He croons over the electrifying instrumentation, "Cuts like a bullet / Straight through my skull and / It's letting the worms inside in my head / Wish I could ignore it / Let night turn to morning / Now I'm laying in bed but I don't sleep." On the hook, he describes himself as a worm caught in the sun now dried up and shit out of luck," with rambunctious production kicking it up a notch, almost emulating this, "kicking him while he's down," sonic sensation.

"This song ('Worm in the Sun') really took a toll on me. I spent a while with it and finally cracked the lyrics. I feel like a worm in the sun sometimes, you know.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Liam Walsh, is a classic, black-and-white visual that captures the edginess and griminess of the band and the single. The video is a high-energy spectacle, following the band as they perform the track on a whited-out sound stage, giving it their all and exuding their highly charged, magnetic energy.

"Worm in the sun" is the first release since their 2024 EP Warm Beers, which was a six-track collection that perfectly encapsulated their raw, garage-punk sound. It's the perfect soundtrack for listless days spent hanging out with friends in parking lots or sleeping through the hangover caused by the debauchery of the night before. With this in mind, it'll be exciting to see what this band accomplishes with the real estate of a whole LP at their fingertips. The band will also hit the road for their 'DANCE PUNCH CRY TOUR,' which kicks off March 5 in Los Angeles and will hit cities like Chicago and DC before wrapping up in Austin, TX, on April 2.
