When awfultune, née Layla Eden, releases a new single and announces a new EP, we pour some tea, find a cozy spot, and get ready to get a little weird and emotional. And if that sounds like the ideal composition for your next in your feels listening sesh, then you’ll love this "weird!," a wonderous, somber dive into the wrestling match between our hearts and heads. Wanting to know more ahead of the release of unreleased demos ii we reached out to find out what is behind these “silly songs” and more.

Ones To Watch: Who is awfultune?

awfultune: awfultune is a silly girl in her silly bedroom making silly songs for the internet.

What is "weird!" all about?

“weird!” is a ‘cutesy’ drunk love song about falling in love. It never hit you until this very moment, and that makes you feel so weird.

Any collaborations on ‘weird!"? Who produced the track?

My best friend Henry! He came up with that guitar loop back in December. I kinda just fell in love with how it sounded, and we built it from there together. It’s really special to me.

You have a prodigious output. How often and quickly do you write?

I write a lot of music. I feel like it’s always different. sometimes I can write songs in less than five minutes, and sometimes it takes me days.

How do you feel your sound has evolved or changed since your first release?

My first ever release was i want to be normal EP in 2018, and I was such a baby. Closeted trans and I had no idea how to make/mix music or what my sound was supposed to be at all. I feel like as I grew, my music changed a lot, and I have tried so many different things now that I never expected to ever try.

Can we expect more of this style in the future? Or do you evolve constantly?

Yeah, of course! Indie music is where I come from. it’s definitely the pocket I’m known for now. I feel like I will always be reinventing myself and, at the same time, chasing that indie sound. Right now I have no idea where I’m going next, and that's the beauty of it all.

Besides this excellent track, what else should we be on the lookout for?

I've got one more song coming in March before I drop this new EP, unreleased demos II. It’s the second installment of unreleased demos that I released in 2019. I just had a bunch of demos again that I felt didn’t fit an actual project, so here we are.

What's inspiring you right now outside of music?

A lot of new beginnings. My friends. Renovating my house a ton! Just little things in life that mean the most to me.

Food group best suited to enjoying your work?

Get some sweets and candy, some tea, and a good blanket. Throw your headphones on and dive in.

Who are your Ones To Watch?

I'm heavy on Miley Cyrus right now and forever. I know she's not new by any means, but Dead Petz is some of the most intimate music I've ever heard. I grew up with her on my tv, and I love her so much. Can’t believe she just won her first Grammy.
