Chloe Qisha Finds Her Sound in the Sweltering "I Lied, I'm Sorry"

The Malaysian-born and UK-based singer, songwriter, and self-taught multi-instrumentalist Chloe Qisha continues to make waves in the pop scene with the release of her latest single, "I Lied, I'm Sorry." With a sound reminiscent of pop stars like Olivia Rodrigo blended with iconic, grungier bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the single sees the artist deliver a track that listeners can't help but be smitten by.

With upbeat drum machine percussion, thrumming bass, and poppy guitar riffs leading the charge, Qisha's sultry vocals paint a sweltering scene of lust and regret. She croons over the flirty yet tense production, "In a London house, there's the loneliest girl / And a broken boy and a fuck-ton of tension / There's a police line around a porcelain heart / 'Cause she knows what she's done and slightly regrets it." Filled with anticipation, she narrates that if the protagonist could find the words in this stressful situation, she would say to the boy, "I want your hands on my body / Your hands on my body...When I said I didn't miss you, yeah, I lied / I'm sorry, I lied, I'm sorry, I lied, I'm sorry." As the song persists, listeners soon discover that the boy the main character is pining over might feel the same way.

"I consider 'I Lied, I'm Sorry' to be the song that set me on course; the start of the kind of music that's never felt more like myself," Qisha shared in a statement. "I'd say it wasn't until my co-producer Rob Milton and I wrote this that I truly knew what my 'sound' was. Lyrically, the song is about the intensely awkward but passionate kind of love you have in your adolescence – when everything seems to be far more dramatic, and the 'oh God, the world will end if I don't kiss this person' kind of feeling."

"I Lied, I'm Sorry" follows the release of Qisha's impressive debut single "VCR Home Video." The debut track is an intimate and reflective offering that takes inspiration from her relationship with her parents and the evolution of their dynamic as she's grown up.
