Hot Mulligan Call Out The Hypocrisy Of Church Leaders In Fiery New Single | THE NOISE

After an insane 2025, Hot Mulligan are back to kick off the new year on a high with their brand-new single, “I Don’t Think It’s The Right Time For Emojis.” Following the success of last year’s The Sound A Body Makes When It’s Still, the Michigan outfit’s surprise B-side centers on themes of hypocrisy in modern religion and the complicated act of questioning faith. With their trademark brutal honesty, Hot Mulligan clearly isn’t afraid to remain outspoken during these increasingly fucked-up times.

There’s an overwhelming sense of dread woven throughout the two-minute track as it blends the band’s signature sound with clearer, more restrained vocal passages. Mellow acoustic riffs collide with bounding, joyous pop-punk chords, creating a contrast that helps disguise the song’s raw and deeply personal lyrical content, like a bitter pill made just a little sweeter to swallow.

Vocalist Tades Sanville shares the meaning behind the song, “Zealotry is probably going to kill us all. Which is fine, guess. It’s no better or worse than any other kind of annihilation. There’s some people of faith who seem to understand not everyone has to care what their book says, and that deserves thanks. But judging by how many people are showing up for the mega-church Sunday spectacular, complete with pyro and wirework, the meek are not likely to inherit the earth.

“Joel Osteen locked people outside during Hurricane Harvey. Kenneth Copeland uses his church to buy planes, fancy cars and houses. The camel can apparently very easily fit through the eye of the needle. David Easterwood is a pastor who runs an ICE field office on the side. Half of the archdiocese’s job is to cover for pedophiles.

“I think some people can do it right. They’re nice people with a big nice ghost and I don’t mind that one bit. But I think most people are just so afraid to die that they can look past the evil thing their church has become.”

The band is currently touring across the EU, U.K., and Ireland, hitting 15 cities, including a stop at the prestigious London Roundhouse, with support from Delta Sleep. They also plan to head out across the U.S. this summer on a headlining run featuring Joyce Manor, Saturdays At Your Place, and Koyo, alongside several festival appearances.
