Looking for a little summertime magic that rivals your favorite bottle of rosé? More Giraffes and their perfect blend of oceanside pop will have you seeing the world in pastel. Their latest single, "Surf" is just what the doctor ordered, whether you're packing your beach day cooler or sitting under a window AC unit trying not to melt your face off. As the second release from the duo's forthcoming EP, Bermuda,  you can sit back and relax knowing there's more goodness to follow. Binge-listen to your heart's content because More Giraffe's is bringing the vibe so you can get your summer thrive on.

OTW sat down with the group to chat about their new release and summer habits.

OTW: Where were you when you wrote and produced "Surf"? Any special sounds or techniques you incorporated for the first time?

MG: We wrote "Surf" in our studio in Altadena, dreaming up a world of someone living in a shack on the ocean finding total joy in the present moment and atmosphere.  We love playing with the voice and obscuring the naturalness of it, and for the first time we actually used Mark as the lead vocal for the first chorus of this song. We love using formant and pitch shifting so we made him sound a little less like… himself. Other than that, we reached for lots of hazy surf guitar and synth sounds to fill out the production. There’s a part at the end were we verbed out the “surf surf surf” vocals of Keeley’s and we like to say that it’s a little parade of sea animals singing and then falling off the continental shelf lol.

OTW: What’s in your beach survival tote?

MG: SPF cuz WHOA we are pale. We’re all about reducing single use plastics and containers, so we definitely make sure to bring our metal straws, bamboo cutlery and lots of veggies to chomp on. (Shoutout veggie bacon)

OTW: Are there any fellow beach-inspired tunes you'd happily have hang ten with "Surf" in a playlist?

MG: Honestly, this is whack but Sugar Ray and Smash Mouth give me beach vibes and I’m not mad about it.

OTW: What's next on the horizon for More Giraffes?

MG:  We have more singles and videos rolling out through the summer as well as our debut LA show at The Hi Hat in Highland Park August 21st as part of We Found New Music’s showcase there! Very excited to play out in our hood.
